Milwaukee manager Dan Shay pleads self defense in the fatal
shooting of "colored waiter Clarence Euell" at an Indianapolis
hotel on Thursday, May 3. The
newspaper reports that Shay claimed that Euell, after the two exchanged
words, came toward him with clenched fists.
Shay was held without bail. A
blog at Historical Miami (Ohio) Society
(http://mchistorical.blogspot.com/2011/10/sad-days-of-danny-shay.html) , Shea
remained in an Indianapolis jail until his trial that November, when he was
acquitted. He never managed again but
did scout for the Brewers in the 1920s.
He had a stroke in 1926 and, in November 1927, committed suicide. |
