A disputed call in the 6th inning of the second game caused a rhubarb described by George A. Barton in the Minneapolis Tribune as "the wildest that has taken place there [Nicollet Park] since Umpire Brick Owens became involved in a mixup with Mike Kelley and his Millers back in 1906."  Kilduff punched umpire Frank Connolly in the chin.  Kilduff, Duncan, and coach Johnny "Red" Corriden were ejected.  After the game about 1,000 fans followed Connolly and umpire Jim Murray to their dressing room.  Three policemen escorted the umpires from the ballpark.

Mike Kelley is hit by a car 3 blocks from the Millers' hotel in downtown Louisville and breaks leg.  Kelly and Corriden had gone out at noon to buy a western newspaper so Kelley could check the progress of the Western League Des Moines team, of which Kelley was a half-owner.  He was elated to read the headline, "Des Moines Club Clinches Pennant," and then was hit.  Corriden went to the hospital with Kelley, and Middleton managed the team on Tuesday.
