W 7/1 at Kansas City W 3-1 33-35 Rube Marquard is sold by Indianapolis to the New York Giants for $12,000.  The Giants also purchase John "Chief" Meyers of St. Paul (who was leading the league with a .312 batting average) for $6,000.  Marquard and Meyers stayed with Indianapolis and St. Paul, respectively, through the end of the American Association season.  (The sales prices for Marquard and Meyers are what was reported in newspapers at the time, although other sources list the price the Giants paid for Marquard as either $11,000 or $13,000.)
