In the rain, the
Millers had a 7-2 lead in the fifth.
After the first Columbus batter went out in the last of the fifth (two
outs before it became a regulation game), the fans stampeded onto the field. With the rain still falling, the game was
called because of rain a half-hour later.
League president J. Ed Grillo ruled that it was a rain out and the
game would have to be replayed, although he said that Minneapolis would
receive its share of the gate receipts. |

St. Paul led 1-0 in
the last of the sixth when the game was delayed 15 minutes because of
rain. After it resumed, the Millers
scored to tie the game. St. Paul
scored 2 in the top of the seventh.
With two out in the bottom of the inning, Minneapolis rallied and
scored the tying run on a play in which Jerry "Buck" Freeman was
called safe at first by umpire Killen.
St. Paul pitcher Charlie Ferguson hit Killen and was ejected. With the rain continuing to fall, Killen
called the game, which reverted to the sixth inning and ended in a 1-1 tie. |

*Berger's totals
include games played with Columbus, and DeMontreville's totals include games
with Indianapolis in 1904. (The
newspapers never identified DeMontreville as being Lee or his brother Gene. However, Ed Washuta, a member of the
Society for American Baseball Research, found an item in the May 14, 1904 Sporting Life that confirmed that
the DeMontreville with the Millers in 1904 was Lee.) |
