H. Harris, who leased the Detroit team from owner Vanderbeck, as a way to put to a court test whether the blue law was legal.  The sheriff entered through the players' gate and told the fans he had placed the players under arrest and then put the question of whether to finish the game to a vote of the fans.  The fans roared, "let the game go on," and the sheriff waved his hands to the umpire and players and left the field.  Perry Werden hit two homers for the Millers, but George Stallings hit a two-run homer in the top of the ninth to give Detroit the win.
