Sa 9/14 Terre Haute* W 16-13 60-57 *at Minnesota State Fair grounds.  HR-Werden (43).  Minneapolis and St. Paul both played at the fairgrounds.  After the Miillers game, St. Paul beat Detroit 7-3 in a game called by darkness after 8 innings.
Regarding the fairgrounds, the St. Paul Pioneer Press reported, "The grounds were probably the worst that a professional game was ever played on.  They were full of rocks and holes, and the outfielders played in a gully.  When the centerfielder was in his position the umpire could not see him without running out beyond second base."  The Minneapolis Tribune reported, "A diamond had been prepared in front of the grand stand, but quite a distance away.  The combination band in the grand stand kept the music continually."  On the track during the game were pacing contests, a one-legged bicycle race between two men with artificial legs, and a race between a bicyclist and a horse.

Notes and Roster
Once again, the Millers averaged more than 10 runs per game, and Perry Werden topped his previous year’s output by hitting 45 home runs—37 of them at Athletic Park with 4 coming in one game on July 23—to set a new professional record, one that would stand until Babe Ruth took up the business.  Others took advantage of Athletic Park’s short dimensions (even pitcher Chick Fraser had 15 home runs in 1895), and the Millers as a team hit 219 home runs, a single-season professional record that lasted for decades.
